U.K. Rubs and Imports - Round 2

Recommended Posts

Hello All ,

I can see this has been a topic before but the old thread is not open to new members. I just purchased some Traeger rub from a garden centre for 9.95 .... ouch . Are there other rubs at a better price , UK origin ? or is this par for the course(ly) (ground salt and pepper ).

thanks , Chris

Used these guys a couple of times. Based just outside Manchester, they produce a range of rubs to suit most applications. The only thing I found an issue was the granules tended to bind together, despite being stored in air tight bags it always clumps when used in a shaker.

But at the price (when purchasing in bulk) you can't quibble too much.

The best rubs I've used are Oakridge BBQ but they are pricey.

Over the last few years, I've tried a number of rubs and I find a lot of them leave a lot to be desired. I have maybe 25/30 bottles of the stuff and some are ok'ish, I now go and make my own, yesterday I watched a video were this US guy cooked up his own sauces, it looked good maybe knock a batch up next week ? There are recipes for the rubs all over the net,  or take the spices that you like and have a go....on a small scale like a pork chop or steak.

Any idea where to get celery seeds and onion powder ? Think they are an American thing

Morning.....far from it both are on most supermarket shelves. We have found them easy, the other way would be online but you won't get them for tomorrow.

As ice said, making your own is the way to go. But if looking for something quick or to much hassle to make. 1 of these packs for your pork steaks will do the job for £1 and not a bad little rub. Definitely sold in Morrisons as have got them there before but think Asda may do them as well?

I actually can’t believe people pay £15 + for seasoning .... make your own and spend the money on more meat ! Also shop around for spices - those jars they sell at the supermarket are I believe the biggest marked up item in the shop. Morrison’s sometimes have 100g packets of rajah spices at much kore reasonable prices, failing that you can get them online or at local indoor food markets
