Diggerg
Got some more steel coming next week, I should be able to finish the firebox and transfer tube and plate out the cook chamber. I have a rough budget so I'm keeping a running total of both £££ and hours just so I can justify to myself is cheaper than buying one. Smokin Monkey
Will, definitely be cheaper than buying new. Seen one for sale this week, ( @Eddie Buttle ) about 10 years old for £1200.
Eddie Buttle
The smoker that I am selling is not gravity feed and it certainly is not £1,200. My Lone star grilz smoker is the real deal made in Texas and not a clone.
Smokin Monkey
Sorry @Eddie Buttle, was someone else on CWS that was seeking one.

Diggerg
Lower fire box tacked up. 2 holes so I can use either a valve for natural aspiration or my pid fan.

Diggerg
@Smokin Monkey should the fire box and transfer tube be welded here?
Smokin Monkey
@Diggerg, yes. I would fit a cross member across above the fire Box inlet and down each side. This will give you a good area for the door to seal on.
Diggerg
@Smokin Monkey I meant the fire box assembly. Is it welded to the frame? I'm going to make a door curb once I've plated the outside. Edited April 2, 2019 by Diggerg Extra
Smokin Monkey
Yes weld it to the frame where it touches.
Diggerg
Cheers. Hope to get the chamber sides plated out tomorrow.
Smokin Monkey
Have you drilled this back wall with a series of holes, to allow heat into chamber? You will also have to weld on a Box section the same thickness as the main frame and to cover the holes say 75 mm sq. It is best to weld this in first before welding the fire Box in. I also made a “cage” that fits over these holes inside the fire Box, it stops charcoal blocking the holes and stopping heat going in to the chamber. That was something that I found out by trial and error.

Diggerg
My friend that worked somewhere with a press brake has left now so I had to score the plate and manually fold the TIG the outside to fill the groove. An hour of Tig 😏 Edited April 3, 2019 by Diggerg Sp
