  1. Congrats on your purchase, I am sure you will enjoy it and get plenty of use out of it.
  2. Tried to the update today, but it didn't take, will try again tomorrow. Did some lemon & coriander chicken wings today, really tasty and juicy. The grill runs a bit hotter on the right hand side, first time I had chance to see it for myself with a grill/cook. Food needed swapping around once to keep the food cooking, balanced. But now aware of it, can compensate better in the future.
  3. Been in discussion with Weber UK about the C and F problem I have talked about within the App. They sent me a PDF with the correct way to update everything, I am in the middle of a cook at the moment, so not going to do it yet. But the PDF they sent me states The latest Firmware Version is 04008 The Latest Software version juneOS Lite 1.2 (1394) The latest App Update iOS: 0.9.5 Android: 0.9.4 They have told me this will fix my niggle with the temp display in the app, we shall see So looks like there has been a App and Firmware update today, so check you next open the app and update the firmware on your Smokefire also
  4. First time I have ever smoked a turkey, only a crown, but super juicy and a much milder smoke flavour than used to with charcoal, but dare I say better for it 🤯
  5. Nice to hear you got it resolved and customer service stepped up. Hopefully you can get on and enjoy the machine now.
  6. Is this where the event is being held? https://www.nwscnotts.com/nwsc/news
  7. Sorry to hear that, hope it comes to a good conclusion for you, be interested to read what the problems are. It was tasty, nice to be able to turn the grill on and 18 minutes later you are up to 600F and cooked your burgers and toppings within 15 minutes after that, not sure I could do that with a charcoal grill. Still whether undecided to leave the lid down or grill with the lid open, will suss it over time (but it is so pretty and orange in the dark, with the lid open)😀
  8. First go, no idea what to call them, so i think a Dirty Burger sounds good. Wrapped the meat round a babybel (which melted as hoped during the cook)and grilled them on the plancha with some mushrooms and onions and melted some cheese on top, using a dome. Sorry for the quality of the photos, but my back garden is very dark, but they tasted good.
  9. First of apologies, intended taking photos of the various assembly stages, but I was battling the wet weather when I did it yesterday, so cracked on with it to get it done. The box is very big and heavy, personally I couldn't have managed to get it round the back of my house on my own from the kerbside delivery, but broke it down and managed to get it on my sack truck to do it. There are handles built into the box if 2 people need to lift and carry it. The assembly wasn't too difficult and the instructions were clear and concise and easy to follow, I used the BILT app. Which you can get for your Apple or Android phone from the relevant stores. You key in your model number Weber EX4 or EX6 into the search box, once downloaded and It basically displays the instruction diagrams, Weber supply, stage by stage with the same visuals, but in colour along with animated close ups of the diagrams, along with the written information in a verbal format. I found I used both at different stages of the build and they were just as easy and helpful to follow. The box once opened up,makes a very good work surface to work on once opened to avoid any scratches or dents during the construction of it. All in all it took me about 75 minutes, from start to finish and the pieces that needed to be fitted to the body is just a one man job. The only time I asked for help was tilting it up onto its legs once they had been fitted. Although I had locked the wheels, I found they still moved when trying to tip it upright and basically I was chasing it round the patio at a 45 degree angle trying to get it fully upright on my own, so got some help. The only thing I had to go back to, to correct was I had installed the fire pot grate back to front, but realised my mistake when I tried to fit the glow plug back in. There is a hole in the edge of the grate for it to fit through (doh) so long as that is fitted towards the back of the barrel, the glow plug will fit properly. The weather beat me in the end yesterday, so couldn't do the burn off till today. Switching the machine on and connecting Bluetooth was easy and so long as you have the app on the phone installed correctly it is a doddle along with the firmware update needed before using (took about 20 minutes to update) the connection to the wifi wasn't difficult, once that was done, but it would be nice if the app could find Wifi network in your locallty itself, rather than have to type the network name in manually, you have to type it in along with your router password. I filled up the hopper with a bag of Weber Grill Academy Pellets and the full bag fitted in perfectly into it with the new hopper insert. I fired it up to do the burnoff and it reached 600F within 18 minutes and during the 45 minute burnoff it did drop to 555F for 20 minutes towards the end (It is an extremely windy day today) so hoping that may have contributed to it. Although the phone was reading 555F but the display on the machine was saying 600F so not sure what was going on there. But I will monitor it over the coming weeks to see if it is a regular thing or just a one-off. The machine needs to be left to cool down for 15 minutes after a cook/burn in before switching off. One thing I did notice when the temperature was at 600F there were a lot of embers within the machine and a few were escaping that I could see in daylight floating around (mainly from the drawer) which was fully closed. Along with a little smoke from various other joints and seals of the machine. I am not particular bothered about that as any new smoker tends to show a few leaks until properly seasoned and settled in with a few cooks. Once again something I will monitor, but hope it stops. If not I will look to add some gasket seals in any problem areas perhaps, if it is causing it to lose heat. With regards the embers as mine is on a concrete patio, not particularly concerned, but if using on a wooden deck or dry grass area, I would look to buy some grill mats to place it over, just in case. I have a couple of accessories from my previous bullet smoker (Cast Iron Griddle and Pizza Stone) that seem to fit over the grates perfectly and for my first 2 cooks Smash burgers tonight and pizza tomorrow. I am going to try them out. Steve
  10. Checked to see how a couple of my old bullet smoker accessories fitted over the grates on mine. They look very usable as a griddle and pizza stone, so pleased about that. Going to try Smash Burgers and melted cheese with fried mushroom and onion dip on the griddle tonight and homemade pizza tomorrow on it.
  11. I will keep an eye on it, very windy out there today, which may be having an effect on it?
  12. Couple of questions for those that did the burn ins Did you hold 600F for the whole 45 minutes? Got to 600F in 18 minutes (impressed) but after 15 more minutes it dropped to 555F and held at that for the last 30 minutes of the burn off? I know it runs hotter than the probe says, so probably is 600F or close, but the reading does say 555F is there a correct way to put and position the burn pot cover on or can it go any way round and positioned towards the front or bottom of the Barrel
  13. LIDL BBQ (Available 26th March in Stores) Which Article On It Looks an interesting little portable BBQ device, that seems more controllable temperature wise. Handy for out on the beach or picnics, bit small for the back garden, but my initial thought was cast iron cooking and the possibility of cooking whilst allowing a bit of temperature regulation, via the battery operated ventilator, so if you wanted to do some beans or a stew whatever, treat it like a stove or side burner and it may come in useful? Not sure how long a chimney of charcoal lasts though as looks a little restricted and if it is refillable once burnt out, but maybe something to consider as well as it main use of a small outdoor BBQ. My maths isn't great but think it should hold a 12" Dutch oven/skillet based on it being Ø34.8 x H23.8cm?
  14. Amazing Ribs full review out for the Smokefire Nothing new that hasn't been already discussed by owners already, but points out the positive things about it, along with the faults the machine has along with user errors that have occurred.
  15. Not looking brilliant at the moment, but things can change and no decision needs to be made yet as no cash commitment needed yet. National different for me as I have booked a hotel and paid for it. but think I can cancel with enough notification, if necessary?
  16. Lets hope their is enough meat for all that, based on Morrisons today, more fish than meat available at the moment 😀
  17. Managed to get 90 minute break in the rain, so assembled it, but not fired it up due to it starting again till late in the evening, so will fire it up tomorrow. Took me about 75 minutes to assemble on my own, just needed some help to tip it up off it side after the legs attached, as the wheels although locked still rolled making it difficult to tilt it upright on my own. Surprised about the amount of machine oil on the firepot cover, it was covered in it, wiped it down as best I could. Had the hopper insert attached and I chose to remove the finger guard Nice little bonus on the Weber website for Smokefire owners, when they register it, offering a cast iron sear grate and poultry roaster. Haven't done mine yet, but Riverside and Wow were offering one of the free Weber BBQ courses as well, with Smokefire purchases, but seems to have to been replaced by this one.
  18. Going to have do it myself as well. Just going to wait for the rain to stop. I am sure they said it was going to be a dry day today? Did you connect via the 2.4ghz Wifi band or does it run quite happily on the fibre 5ghz. I have had apps/connectivity with Smokers that have had problems with the 5 ghz previously.
  19. Got mine, two man job to get it round the back even for the EX4, . Glad I have one of those parcel sack trucks to help. just got to wait for the rain to stop later this afternoon (hopefully) and get it assembled The box does have handles built in, if you have to carry it manually
  20. It's carnage out there in the supermarkets, absolutely empty even of fruit and veg. Madness. . Just got back no strong white flour (no flour of any description), managed to get the last two packs of Pizza Base mix, not ideal but as only practising they'll do. Could only find the Cirio Passata as well, so will try that out as the base sauce mix
  21. Looking to try making some homemade pizzas this weekend, if I can find some strong white flour.... What sort of tomato product do you recommend for using with a pizza?

    Asian Pulled Pork

it is a not a strong flavour compare to a normal rub. If you like char sui pork, not exact but that sort of strength and profile iyswim On a side note, I used the Hoisin Dipping Sauce (like you get with the aromatic duck pancakes) rather than the Hoisin Sauce you cook with stir fry's I've used it on ribs and duck and works well imho, very different from the spicy peppery rubs that most people use. Was going to do cannelloni tonight, with the leftovers. But couldn't get any ricotta cheese or philadelphia today, so cobbled together a pork cottage pie? heated the pork up in a frying pan and added some passata. put it in the bottom of a serving dish, once cooked through. Put some buttery mashed potato on top and then some grated cheese and stuck it under the grill for 8 minutes till nice and crisp on top. Served with some Veg it was very tasty and we both agreed, would do this again. Amazing what you can throw together on a whim and ends up tasting nice.
