Smoker ventilation

Just finished my whiskey barrel cold smoker, my question is how much air input at the base do I need

Hi Mick.

The exact size of the air vent is not critical but you need to ensure that it is adjustable to allow a good flow of air through the smoker. Make them adjustable and you can open and close them as needed.

Do you have some photos of the barrel and how the smoke generator fits within it?

This is the barrel, the smoke generator is a dust maze type which will sit on a couple of bricks and a metal tray, do you think just drill a few holes in the bottom which can be plugged?

Is the bottom on the barrel? Where does the tray and maze smoker sit?

If the bottom is missing and the barrel is simply placed over the generator then do not bother drilling any holes - simply make some thin chocks to lift the whole barrel up an inch or so.

A photo of the smoke generator in situ would help a lot.

Yes it is a whole complete barrel, I haven't sorted the CSG arrangements yet, still thinking it over, just presume something like brick or tiles to stop heat and a metal tray to catch any embers
