  1. It definitely works, as my neighbour has just ordered to replace their broken one.
  2. Should work on all garden I thought…!? Ratton furniture for that someone special in your life and a AK you you…. Result!
  3. Voucher code: GARDEN20 saves 20% at present. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/deals/aldi/#54703
  4. No matter how you tie this up commercially with a supplier in China with I wouldn’t even entertain it. Nevermind waiting for the products to arrive on a boat (assume that’s the mode?) and hoping each one arrives in a satisfactory condition. Whatever you think of the warranty wording, in the UK you have consumer protection enshrined in law. And above that, customer service where many people do generally care about their customer base. Every year there’s stories of the Aldi units that arrive broken and damaged that just get replaced or a discount agreed. I wouldn’t want to pursue that directly with a manufacturer based in China. And if you do get a bulk order, you’ll carry the risk and cost for the onward distribution within the UK to whoever comes in with you. All sounds a PITA but if you have the headspace/time/appetite, crack on! note: I’ve had an Aldi unit for 4 years now. Best £400 I’ve spent. Never really gone down the bells and whistles route but as Hoogl says there’s upgrades along the way once you’ve found your feet you can add in….
  5. @hooglhave you seen Jim’s plans (onlyslaggin) for his new house and outside kitchen? Unreal…
  6. You should be super proud mate, that looks excellent. Top marks for aligning the noggins too! Good luck with the remainder of the build.

    I’ve grown to like it!
  9. https://www.olivemagazine.com/recipes/chef-recipes/cauliflower-shawarma-pomegranate-tahini-and-pine-nuts/ found it 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻
  10. @DavidGif you’re a fan of Middle Eastern cuisine check out the Berber & Q cook book. There’s a good whole cauliflower recipe. Josh Katz (the author) has just released a vegetarian Berber & Q cookbook. I’ve yet to get it but if it’s anything like the original it will be great.
  11. @hooglits not a biggie. The prevailing weather comes from over the back of the wall it’s built against so it’s pretty well protected. I’m on the coast so the winds did get up in the winter. It possibly needs a fascia board and gutter added in the future. Before the paving was in I was getting pooling of water and splash back which made the render a bit green. I’ll see how it does in the autumn, the fall on the patio is pretty good so hopefully I can avoid that.
  12. I’m in the process of building a garden room and have been down many rabbit holes in the process. I’m virtually complete externally (just the epdm roof to fit) and then I can move onto the internal fit out. Sorry there’s not many answers below. Firstly, take nothing below as gospel, and speak to your local building control officer as things can differ between local authorities. Sorry if I’m telling you how to suck eggs, it’s just a brain dump and may help others. With a £2k budget it would be a real shame to proceed down a certain route only to have to rectify or remove at a later date. Design: If budget is tight (it looks it ☹️) consider most economical use of materials and the standard sizes these tend to come in. My build is 2.4m deep so just 1 standard sheet wide. My roof joists came in 3.6m lengths, and were fitted as such. I appreciate you’ve had a lovely baseplate already built so possibly a bit late. Consult span tables for the correct joist sizing and spacing (link below). That said I’ve taken liberties with mine as it’s not a high traffic area and I’m not constrained by building control. It’s also a mini warm roof construction so pretty rigid. Have you considered an overhang around the building. You could leave say the top 200mm open for smoke to exit but the overhang would protect from the elements. If building under permitted development, the structure needs to be 2.5m or less (take a look at the planning portal link below). Building regulations normally do not apply if under 15sqm. I ‘think’ an open structure like yours is considered an out build building. Building control can confirm. Introducing building regs may lead you into having to build from ‘substantially non-combustible’ materials, such as blockwork, cement boards etc. due to your proximity to the neighbouring boundaries. If you look at the facebook group below and do a search on the subject you’ll see no single definition of non-combustible and what that means in practice. Hence why I saw speak about your plans to your local BCO. Materials: EPDM is a good system, but the rubber alone would swallow circa £600 of your budget. The OSB sheets would add another £300 nearly. Have you considered corrugated sheets? Access to the rear looks tight, so would you build a 7m wall in one? I built a 6m wall clad with osb then galv sheet it took 4 people to lift and position. Two of them had European powerlifting medals! I think you need a ‘fit and forget’ cladding, say metal sheeting or cement board. I’m not sure painted osb would give you longevity. Again, non-combustibility may be a factor (as noted above). Resources: Oakwood Gardens Self Build Group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3043587272414632/?ref=share A great resource but not always helpful if you just want a ‘single’ voice. 13. @blademansw I’ve seen your post, will add some thoughts tomorrow once I’m home.
  14. Mate I’ve no problems with answering questions @blademansw Yep, galv sheets.
  15. For sure @Smokin Monkey it great we’re in a position to enjoy the garden with family and friends after the last couple of years.
  16. Yes mate, I was going to use that space where it is as a wood fire you can see a very rusty grill hanging up about the AK. But I never got around to lining it with vermiculite so the small one fills the space well. Helpful when veggies turn up… (the justifications you dream up eh!) Ooni Koda 16 too, a birthday treat to replace a much used Uuni 2S.
  17. Adam, spoiler alert: the todo list never finishes…. 😩 I’m glad it’s inspired, I had mates over last weekend and it’s just great having a space to cook, chill, chat and drink. I knocked out 9 pizzas too. I’m glad I posted actually so I could see the original pics. I’ve misplaced most of the before shots.
  18. Built a garden room and had some paving laid. Hopefully it inspires/helps…

So…. a year later and I finally got around to sorting this. Didn’t end up with something black or standard looking at all… For reference, this is the smokeware vented form the Kamado Joe (I can confirm the big green egg version doesn’t fit!). Jury is out on aesthetics, but it will do. Just got to learn the new vent positions now!
  20. I’m very happy with the Prosmoke 3” temp gauge. You can calibrate it also.
  21. Nearly 2 years on and it’s nearly finished! kinda.
  22. I had a few chips in the glaze, phoned Aldi and got the option to return or £50 off. I took the money. No regrets.
  23. So every year around this time I start getting notifications about this thread. Sad to see the delivery aspect hasn’t improved at all! 2 years in I love mine. In terms of upgrades I recently replaced the temp gauge for the Prosmoke BBQ 3” (£20). The thread is just about long enough to screw on securely. I really like the enlarged increments and I’m not fussed it tops out at just over 300 deg c. I won’t be doing pizza in my AK. Just my tuppence on upgrades. I’m off to check this charcoal basket out...
  24. I used the cardboard packaging and a couple of scaffold board to slide it where it needed to go.
