Have you tried putting self-adhesive stove rope both on top and bottom? It sealed the gap nicely for me and now only minimal smoke leaks. But either way I went from it being impossible to get up to the right temperature to keeping it down being the hard part.

Haven't been following the thread very well super busy at the moment with a number of things, but I know when I built mine there was a gap and it 100% wasn't working properly, however self adhesive stove rope solved this problem and after all the other lessons you guys taught me I've had quite a few successful smokes. I can take some photos of any parts for you @MrMelons. 

If you don't know, I bought this exact smoker as my first smoker too and got the newbie of the year award on this forum for all the silly mistakes I made and things I learnt as a consequence haha!

Some of you know me, some don’t. Got into smoking last weekend, had some funny failures with my Landmann Kentucky offset smoker! Regardless of whether my lamb got finished in the oven, we had some fun and even more laughs when we realised I wasn’t using my charcoal grill!

Anyway, here’s weekend 2. My self adhesive stove rope has arrived, I’ve got some Weber briquettes, and a chimney charcoal starter now. Today I try a whole chicken and a whole fish! Wish me luck.

and ofcourse it wouldn’t be a post from me without a question. I have lumpwood and briquettes, do I use a bit of both... or?

Oh god I don’t know what to say, first of all i’d like to thank my mother for always believing in me, all my friends over at the woodsmokeforum who supported me along the journey to become, I can’t believe I’m saying it, rookie of the year! This award is going top shelf in my smoke shed👨🏽‍🍳 

In my head I was like ‘ah they might fall through that may as well put em on the bottom’

Not my brightest moment, nevertheless a piece of woodsmoke amateur history now.

What I’ve done instead of the clamp is tied rope around the handle and to the leg and I simply tighten it and pull the knot on the leg down to close it tighter but it wasn’t very on the spot quick fix. I’ll look into getting a clamp 

I’m not quite sure what you mean by the right angle metal. I plan to just put the 15mm role along the firebox lid and the gap where the lid goes, and then the 25mm along the back and sides of the main chamber and the main chamber lid, but I may leave the front as the lip sits quite nicely anyway! 

Once all that is fitted, I’ll smoke something next weekend using the grate as well and hopefully we’ll see some improvement! 

I could get it to 250 F by blowing rather hard on the coal but as soon as I stopped it would just slowly decrease down until about 150, which would take about 15/20minutes. 

I just realised there’s photos in the Landmann thread so no biggie @Icefever.

Yeahp @HeyBertHeyErnie asked if I was using the grate and I wasn’t so that’ll stop oxygen flow

And oxygen can get under the coals then too! Damn ofcourse.

but yeah my main problem wasn’t getting the temperature up it was that it would just slowly decrease whenever left alone even with vent door open and chimney open. Question, did you manage to seal your sides and back of the main chamber with flat rope? I’m hoping the 25mm stuff will do it! 

My emotional weekend that’s one way to put it hahaha!

Oh my god no I wasn’t using the grate! I guess that raised the coal to oxygen level a bit more? Yeahp getting it sealed is first on my plan.

I thought that for the sides but the bastards didn’t stay glued on. I’ve order d some 15mm and some 25mm flat self adhesive gonna give all the sides a proper scrub down and use that!

I did cheat and finish in the oven but I did get a smoke ring 

Oooo nice! I made mine into some baps with caramelised onions and peppers.

Hey @Icefever, when you get a spare five minutes sometime this week do you mind taking photos of all your stove rope on your landmann so I know I’m applying it right when it arrives? Thanks!

I guess I’m learning in bad conditions! I finished the lamb off quickly in the oven but still had a nice smoke ring just needed better fat rendering a bit. How did yours turn out?

I’ve had the vent door fully open the entire time to try and help. I think the problem is sealing the heat in, once my self adhesive stove rope arrived it should help I think. I’ll settle with blowing on it every 20minutes today haha

Hey guys. Some of you know me as the annoying new kid who won't stop asking questions, but anywaaaay... here goes.

Smoked my first thing yesterday, currently smoking a lamb shoulder as I type this. I've got a nice hot red bed of coal, with some oak hardwood on top. I can get the temperature to 250 farenheit by blowing in the smoke chamber, but as soon as I leave it alone it starts to drop rapidly. Also, I can't get it to produce a thick smoke, the two could be related. I have a feeling it's dropping due to lack of stove rope along the back of my landmann kentucky offset. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
