I have a couple of my barrel staves leant up against the radiator in the house drying out, and I keep my shavings in a sealed ammo can. Seems to work for me.

The technicals of Fire is relatively simple. Its a Triangle, and each side is, Air/ Oxygen, then Fuel, and the third side is Heat. You take away anyone of those side and the triangle collapses and you don't have a fire. I learned that on a course at HMS Raleigh in the 70's where we learned how to put out a diesel fire with just a water extinguisher. Everyone these days says it cant be done! I think I would not want to try it in real life, but the principle worked. One of the most memorable days was the Fire Course and the Battle Damage Control in a gimballed tank with water pouring everywhere and the instructors turning out the lights and dropping thunderflashes in through holes and gratings. Wow... That takes me back  to my younger days! Realistic, but fun at the same time as having a serious purpose too. Its something I've never forgotten.

  2. Hi all. Well today I took a ride to Wisbech and met Mr Charcoal (Tony). A very nice man and extremely knowledgeable and helpful.  He even lit some different types of charcoal and watched the development. As you can see from the pictures it was hot. I was there for about an hour and a half. One type when developed had an ash and when knocked of it was glowing red underneath. I bought 3 bags at a steal and look forward to using it. I would highly recommend him. A very genuine guy. Hope you find this helpful?

  3. This is my first time at smoking and with a newly purchased ProQ frontier. Was a rack of pork ribs and a small pork shoulder. The crackling done separately. Very pleased and tasty for my first attempt.

  4. Hi everyone,

I am new to the forum and finding my way around. I have introduced myself in the new members.

So I found this thread on briquettes, I have just bought a ProQ frontier and will try my first cook soon. I have seen these and are not too far from me.

They do lumpwood as well and bulk buy

    Anybody tried them?

    Cheers

  5. Hi all.

I was wondering if anyone has done any modifications to their ProQ smokers.

I have put heavy duty castors on mine to move around the patio. Makes a big difference.

  6. H everyone.

I stumbled on this forum when researching smokers.

Years ago I used to cook on a weber kettle and loved the smokey taste. Then as life got hectic and time was limited I bought a gas bbq. Very convenient but missed the charcoal flavour. so after a few years I thought I would buy a decent gas bbq and one that was very versatile. Fast forward after saving hard I bought a Napoleon Prestige Pro 665. This is an amazing grill with its own built in large smoker tube. And can get a charcoal grate for it. (I did not get the grate as ash would fall into the burners) After lots of experimenting and yummy food I could not replicate the smokey taste. So after much research I have just bought the ProQ frontier Elite. So hopefully after all your help and advice I will once again get the traditional bbq taste?

I look forward to some interesting reading on what looks like a great forum 😃
