Waterbaby
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has done any modifications to their ProQ smokers. I have put heavy duty castors on mine to move around the patio. Makes a big difference.
Icefever
I'm a ProQ man myself, been using it for about 2 years now, not a mod as such, but I use sand instead of water.....far easier. Ice.
Waterbaby
I've only just bought my ProQ. I'm Looking forward to experimenting. I've seen lots about using sand or storage heater bricks and terracotta plates.
Icefever
Those of us who use other than water seem to find the heat easier to control....and you don't have to keep topping up the water which is a PITA on a long cook. Ice.
Waterbaby
Do you cover the sand with foil to stop the fat dripping onto the sand?
Icefever
Yes....most use the "play sand" from Homebase as it's sterile & safe. Ice.
Elecrafter
I used to use "Swimming Pool Filter Sand" which I got from an aggregate merchant, was cheaper than B&Q etc. Owner retired and business went downhill and eventually bust!
