Great photos everyone, and a great weekend.

Special thanks to @Smokin Monkey and @Wade for arranging it all and providing all the catering gear e.t.c.

It was great to put faces to names and meet all the newcomers, and everyone turned out some blinding food. Props all round.

Thanks for a great weekend and roll on the northern tailgate!

The rain on the Friday evening certainly helped to cool us down but despite it being torrential for a while the hot parched campsite ground just soaked it up like a sponge. What a contrast for Saturday though... My head is still feeling quite tender from the strength of the sun.

Another taste of the Friday night deluge ?

It was another great weekend - a big thanks from Steve and myself to all of you for making it so much fun. A special thanks to @Icefever for coming up with the event name "Woodsmoke 18" - which I think will now stick for future events - sorry Brian there is no commission ?

So much great food, catching up with old friends and also making new ones too. Although I have been smoking and BBQing for many years I still learned much from the weekend - and I hope others did too :thumb1:. Although the spread looked impressive as it was, there was even more food that didn't get put out !

Following the enthusiastic feedback from the event, we are already in the process of finalising the date for "Woodsmoke 19". Although in previous years we have held the weekend at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire, this year we moved it to Billing Aquadrome as it is a more central location within the UK. Billing Aquadrome worked out really well and it also offered a lot of additional family entertainment. We will be returning here again in 2019. The interest from the other campers was amazing and I hope we have encouraged more people to be creative on their BBQs at home. When we opened up the banquet to the public they certainly enjoyed it.

Some more photos from the weekend.

Relaxing on the Friday night after the rain. Note the storm damaged gazebo on the left...

Justin (aka "Jason" :/) also preparing the breakfast. The spicy tomatoes with eggs (not added yet) on Mrs Ice's bread was a great start to the day.

The two parties that turned up through Facebook thought they had booked into the weekend.  It was very easy to see what had happened.

I don't do FB but is there a way that any post put on FB could be a "sticky "???  So folks would know that they have to book via the forum?? Just my 2 cents

?

Damn, I've been out of the loop lately and not been paying regular visits to the site. Thought you were supposed to have more free time once you've retired ? We would have been up for attending this cookoff if we hadn't been at Upton Blues Festival the same weekend, but will keep it in mind for next year.

Looks like you've all enjoyed yourselves immensely as usual and seems a decent venue.

I'm still Q'ing with the Weber, nothing too exciting but with this good spell of weather, it's been on a couple or three times every week.

No, it's all a myth mate...I'm 71 in Dec and still working full time as a trucker....my good lady does also and I'm the young one.  :thumb1:

We thought we were bbq'ing until I found this forum...how wrong were we???    ?

What about coming up north to the "Tailgate do".

  • 10 months later...

Just had a trip back to last years tailgate,  re-read all the posts, what a paralarva building up to it, brought a smile to me. m0137.gif

The Friday set up when the rainstorm hit us, but we took all it could throw at us and came out the other side.
It's a shame none of the photos load, only the video from @Wade..then I came across a short video I did on my phone that I'd forgot at the time to upload..

......so for all the new folks that have joined in the meantime and maybe thinking of giving a "Tailgate" a chance this year.

ps...just watched it again and just at the end you can see the one gazebo about to collapse.....🤣

The British weather could not beat us.   m0155.gif
