  1. My local Aldi have some nice looking tomahawks in priced at £13.49 a kilo, nice and thick. Looking forward to reverse searing on the Kamado
  2. Hi, I'm really keen to get a Kamado, but finding it hard to justify the initial outlay. The Aldi egg looks just what I need, especially as it comes with a stand, but as demand looks like a lot higher than supply I'm not convinced that I'll manage to get hold of one. I've seen on some other posts that people have got them from Alibaba, but then they didn't come with any accessories or deflectors. What should my plan B be in the likely event that I don't manage to get hold of one of the Aldi ones? Thanks

  5. Char-Broil Kamander for sale on Amazon, great price for a rock solid Kamado style grill. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Char-Broil-Grill-Kamander-Kamado/dp/B07D8WTQWB/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=bbq&psr=EY17&qid=1606136823&rnid=161428031&s=black-friday&sr=1-13
  6. Had a crack & cooked this tonight, Murgh Hankani one of the new recipes on the Pro Smoker (Macsbbq) site. Highly recommended. I did cheat & use the Mini Kamado (affectionately known as the Cheap Jack Joe) to cook the chicken but wow, what flavours. Since lockdown & being furloughed i've cooked several indian dishes that take a little more time to prepare but by golly they are worth it. The recipe can be found HERE Cheers n Gone Nick
  7. Well as we all know the mini Kamado was back in the middle isle this last week and managed to convince the OH that we desperately need one in our lives, especially since our old non-branded barrel smoker has semi-died on us. We were lucky as our local Lidl only had two in stock. Even more lucky was our local garden centre (still on lockdown in Scotland) are operating click and collect and had some restaurant grade Big K charcoal in stock! All I can say was wow it's a tiny thing of beauty when built (which was super easy as even the tools came in the kit!) Itching to give it a try and reading last year's post that it doesn't come with a deflector I constructed a shoddy one myself using a soup bowl and some metal skewers as a bracket. After fiddling to get the desired temp I was gobsmacked how steady the temp was kept compared to the drum. First up was some brined and dry rubbed chicken thighs. 50mins smoking with some hickory chips and then removed the makeshift deflector to get some char on the skin. Yum yum. Once they were done the next on the list was one low and slow brisket for an overnighter. This is where things got tricky. The wee thing was far too efficient! The old smoker normally conked out around 3am and all was good but dam I woke up and checked at 8am to find the temp still rock steady at 120C and the beef black as anything after taking the deflector out there was still enough coal for a good few hours yet. So that was a solid 11 hours with I reckon a further 2-5 hours still if it was kept going. What a champ! Will be ordering a more permanent deflector to make this bad boy more presentable but other than that, it's a cracking bargain.
  8. Afternoon all, Just a quick message to say hello really! Have seen quite a few posts from other folks in Wales over the last few days so to all of them I say, shwmae! I'm in South Wales, keeping my fingers crossed we get some good weather this summer as it looks like I won't be leaving the garden much. No real barbecue experience as of yet except for the odd burger or sausage on a kettle grill, but in a moment of total boredom/madness after missing the cheap ALDI kamado sale this year I shelled out for a Kamado Joe Classic 2 - should be arriving in about a week and I can't wait 😁 Meanwhile I've been reading up on BBQ in general to get ready for the big day. Enjoying Meathead: The Science of Great Barbecue and Grilling (some great facts and explanations for the science buffs) but interested in any recommendations for kamado-specific books - let me know if anything comes to mind! Thanks to Wade and the other admins/mods for launching and running the site as I've been looking for a UK-based BBQ board for a while - been lurking for a few hours and this one looks awesome. Happy grilling, everyone! 😎 Wispy
  9. So my lad has had the Mini Chef Kamado for a few weeks now, we have added pizza stone / heat deflector & a 5mm steel Plancha / heat deflector. So he has plenty of cooking options. He's played around with it, but what do you guys actually cook on yours? I'm a bit lost on recipes that he can cook & feed three. I'm used to loading the smoker & cooking for the masses so to speak. Are they any sites / forums you can point to that give recipes for the Mini style Kamados? Perhaps this would be a good place to start a thread on your chosen recipes, experiences or ideas? Cheers n Gone Nick
  10. Just happened across this video...not English, but you can see what & how the guy builds it...wonder who will be first to have a go?? 🤣 Ice.
