  1. Update: I have purchased some HardieBacker concrete boards from B&Q that are fire proof and are quite light/think considering they are concrete. Going to install these on the wood flooring below the firebox(es) so any falling coals won't burn the wood floor
  2. I've got a metal bucket but yeah that's still a bit below the door. Are you thinking like having a tray that is almost attached to the bottom of the firebox so there is no gap between the end of the door opening and the tray? Think this would be a good idea and i can have the bucket below for the overflow. Use the tray as a sort of "slide" to help ensure the coals either sit in the tray or slide into the bucket with water in the bottom to instantly cool them
  3. I've done a test run with the weber and that went great but I am worried about the ash from the firebox on the offset. Don't know if there is more that can be done to catch as much of the falling ash as possible to prevent the shack wood burning
  4. Just finished building my shack and just put the BBQs in. Any thoughts or feedback appreciated. Wood has been covered with Flame Retardant solution to help prevent the obvious danger of the thing catching fire! 😅 Roof is clear corrugated roofing and got protection mats under both the Offset and the Weber to help protect the floor base. Got weatherproof Vinyl "curtains" for the side and front to help with air flow and to open the place up a bit. Future plans include building some worktops to make it easier for prepping and serving as well as better storage for things like the charcoal and gadgets. No power supply to the shack as I have no idea how to install a power line and just had the slabs laid recently.
  5. yeah exactly. I used to go work for John at a design agency i worked it and I'm also friendly with Scott Fraser who runs Angus & Oink up here, he was the person that got me into charcoal BBQ smoking in the first place 😄 we're kind of spoilt for BBQ resources up here
  6. thanks @Icefever and thanks @hoogl i've replied to your question in the other thread
  7. @hooglDavidsons is a few streets down and they are my local butchers! Great quality, they can be on the more expensive side but cannot complain about the quality though so you're definitely getting what you pay for. If you're thinking about getting a delivery from them, they deliver everything frozen so make sure you have space in your freezer before ordering!
  8. Nice to see another Aberdeenshire based smoker on the forum 😄
  9. Hi all, looking forward to spending time on here! I've been BBQ smoking now for about 4 years, mainly a few 10+ people cooks per year but I'm a huge fan of BBQing and especially smoking. Currently running with an Oklahoma Joe Highlander offset with custom mods for baffle plates and some custom probe grommets. Also using the old trusty Weber Bar-B Kettle for grilling. I'm based up in North-East Scotland in Aberdeenshire (seen a few folk on here in the area too) and looking forward to chatting BBQ and smoking with people whilst I'm here!
