  1. Hi there! Apologies for the delay in responding - I’m travelling/out of the country at the moment but if you need support for your FEC120, please call Darren at The American BBQ Company on 0800 644 4141 or 01442 927727. I’m obviously unable to comment on unseen units but one thing to consider if buying second-hand is that the old IQ4 controller is no longer supported by Cookshack. So,when negotiating price, please factor in the possibility of needing a c.£2k (inc. VAT) upgrade at some point. Always check the unit works as it should (if the keypad on the controller is damaged, there’s an even greater likelihood of an upgrade being needed sooner rather than later). Cheers, Nick

  3. There are a number of pellet smokers on the market for less than £400, but because "best" is kinda subjective and different people may want different things from their pellet smoker. Some things to thing about, though: Versatility: What's the temperature range; is it realistically capable of grilling as well as smoke-cooking, roasting, baking? Usability: Will you be able to cook efficiently in winter/cold weather? Control: Contrary to popular belief, pellet smokers don't do 'everything' for the user - what they do do well is wood management, e.g. you don't have to get up at 4.00am during an overnight smoke to check fuel/add wood. But beyond that, does the control system allow you to pre-set different cooking temperature stages? Build: Total weight is a reasonable indicator of steel thickness. But is the weight in the right places, e.g. body/lid, as opposed to legs/wheels? Track Record: Have any major competitions been won using the particular pellet grill? AmazingRibs.com undertake independent, expert product reviews, so it could be worth checking out their pellet smoker/grill review section.

    Greetings!

Hi Everybody The Forum is a great idea, and I hope it has the success it deserves! Anyway, I like to think I've been cooking with wood since first allowed to play with matches, but in truth probably for only the last 15 years or so. Another truth: in addition to being a barbecue and smoking enthusiast, I also run The American BBQ Company. My posts/comments will be in in a personal capacity and I will do my best not to overtly mention our brands, but I hope you won't mind me stepping in if there are questions etc. about Cookshack, Fast Eddy's, Green Mountain Grills, Backwoods Smoker, La Caja China, Flaming Coals, or Cook-Air. Oops. Personally uses: Cookshack PG1000 Cookshack SM025 GMG Davy Crockett BWS Chubby Cyprus Spit Deluxe Cook-Air Grill (and currently in domestic negotiations over what has to go when I bring home the Flaming Coals Offset Smoker - I lost the battle over a La Caja China #2 :-( ) Cheers Nick
