From coppice material not used for crafts, I produce high quality hardwood charcoal for farm shops and chefs across Cornwall.  To ensure a hot and long-lasting burn half the wood charred is a mixture of oak, beech and sweet chestnut. The other half includes willow, sycamore and birch; softer hardwoods which light quickly and easily. This mixture allows the charcoal to be lit without firelighters or fluid - just wrap a few pieces of charcoal in a sheet of newspaper and light. When these are glowing, add the rest of the charcoal. The barbecue is ready to cook on in around ten minutes.
